The Challenge: Monmouth Dean was retained to acquire a unique space for one of the UK’s leading fashion designers. They were expanding rapidly and needed to be in occupation 5 months from when Monmouth Dean was retained.
J.W. Anderson launched a menswear collection in 2008 that became an instant success. Following this, Anderson launched a collection for women, which achieved both critical and commercial success. Since then, Anderson has collaborated with household names such as Topshop and in 2013 LVMH invested in the company also making J.W. Anderson creative director of the Spanish fashion brand LOEWE.
Initially, like many other fashion brands the clients focus was to find space in the Clerkenwell / Shoreditch areas however, the rents in those areas were already increasing rapidly.
The Solution: After trawling through what was available in the Clerkenwell, Farringdon and Shoreditch market none of them were quite right for the client for one reason or another. After searching a little further afield, Springfield House was identified. The self-contained building was split over three floors offering just under 4,500 sq ft. The building had been heavily partitioned providing a number of rooms and most of the original features had been covered up. The client instantly fell in love with the space and the potential it had to offer and the price was significantly lower than the other options.
The building was about to go under offer to another tenant, however Monmouth Dean managed to convince the Landlords agent that our client was better suited for the space.
J.W. Anderson now occupy the building after having completely refurbished it, bringing back all the original character. Since then, many other fashion companies have chosen to move nearby.
